The Lost City
The plane lurched violently, sending me crashing into the seat in front of me. I gripped the armrests tightly, my knuckles white. The pilot’s voice came over the intercom, strained and urgent. “We’re going down!”
I closed my eyes and braced for impact. The plane plummeted through the clouds, the ground rushing up to meet us. I could feel the heat of the flames as they licked at the fuselage.
And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, the turbulence stopped. The plane leveled out, and I opened my eyes. We were flying over a lush green jungle.
“What happened?” I asked the woman next to me.
“I think we lost an engine,” she said. “But the pilot managed to keep us in the air.”
- I looked out the window, my heart still pounding. The jungle below us was dense and impenetrable. We were lost.
- The pilot came on the intercom again. “We’re going to make an emergency landing,” he said. “Please remain calm and follow the instructions of the flight attendants.”
- The plane lurched again, and I felt the wheels touch down on the ground. We bounced and skidded for a few moments, and then we came to a stop.
- The cabin erupted into chaos. People were screaming and crying, and I could hear the sound of luggage being thrown around. I unbuckled my seatbelt and stood up, my legs shaking.
- I made my way to the exit, and I saw that the door was already open. A flight attendant was helping people down the stairs.
- I stepped outside and took a deep breath of the humid air. The jungle was all around us, and I could hear the sound of birds chirping in the trees.
- I looked around, trying to get my bearings. We were in a clearing, and I could see a river in the distance.
- “This way,” the flight attendant said, gesturing to the river. “We’re going to walk to the nearest village.”
- I followed the flight attendant and the other passengers to the river. We waded across the shallow water, and then we started walking through the jungle.
- The going was slow, and the heat was oppressive. I was sweating profusely, and my clothes were sticking to me.
- After a few hours, we came to a clearing. In the middle of the clearing was a small village.
- The villagers came out to greet us, and they seemed to be surprised to see us. They spoke a language that I didn’t understand, but they were able to communicate with the flight attendant.
- The villagers took us to their village, and they gave us food and water. They also gave us some clothes to wear, since ours were soaked through with sweat.
We stayed with the villagers for a few days, and then they helped us to find a way back to civilization.
I’ll never forget the experience of being lost in the jungle. It was terrifying, but it was also an adventure that I’ll never forget.
